Marquee select vs pan
Goal: Configure left-drag on the canvas so you can either box-select nodes or pan the view comfortably.
Time: ~3 minutes
Steps
- Open Settings (gear icon or Cmd+, / Ctrl+,).
- Go to Mouse & Keyboard.
- Find left-drag mode (marquee select vs pan).
- Choose marquee if you often select many nodes by dragging a rectangle on empty space.
- Choose pan if you prefer dragging the background to move the view (use Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on Mac) to accumulate multi-select instead).
- Close Settings and try left-drag on empty canvas to confirm the behavior you picked.
- Use scroll wheel or trackpad pinch to zoom regardless of mode.
Expected result
Left-drag behaves the way you expect: either a selection box or canvas pan. Zoom and node click selection still work as described in The Studio.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Canvas moves when selecting | Switch left-drag to marquee in Settings |
| Cannot pan easily | Switch left-drag to pan; use Fit to recenter |
| Trackpad feels wrong | Try input device mode in the same Settings section |
| Lost nodes off-screen | Toolbar Fit |
| Settings not for AI or Host | Canvas only — PatchAI and Host use toolbar toggles |
