Tutorial 1: Rename and recolor a clip

Goal: Right-click a MIDI clip in Live and stamp a new name and color in one undo step.

Prerequisites: Getting Started complete; a Set with at least one MIDI clip.

Time: ~10 minutes

You will use: Template Clip Stamp (rename & recolor)


Steps

  1. Open Patchwright.
  2. Click Templates and choose Rename and recolor clip (or Clip Stamp).
  3. Set Extension name to Clip Stamp and Author to your name.
  4. Click Build & Run and wait for Connected to Live.
  5. Switch to Ableton Live.
  6. Right-click a MIDI clipExtensionsClip Stamp: On MIDI Clip (label may match your extension name).
  7. In Live, press Cmd+Z once — both name and color should undo together.

Expected results

Where What you see
Patchwright Graph: trigger → Transaction → set name → set color
Live Clip name becomes Hook (or template default); clip color changes
Undo One undo reverts both changes

If something goes wrong

Problem What to do
Command not in menu Confirm you right-clicked a MIDI clip, not audio; rebuild after fixing trigger
Only name or color changed Check both set nodes are inside the Transaction body chain
