Tutorial 2: Transpose a MIDI clip
Goal: Move every note in the selected MIDI clip up or down by semitones.
Prerequisites: Tutorial 1 or equivalent; MIDI clip with notes.
Time: ~10 minutes
You will use: Template Transpose MIDI clip
Steps
- In Patchwright, open Templates → Transpose MIDI clip.
- Set Extension name (e.g.
Transpose +7). - Find the semitones setting on the transpose node (template default +12).
- Build & Run → confirm connected to Live.
- In Live, select a MIDI clip with notes, right-click → Extensions → your transpose command.
- Open the clip in the piano roll — notes should shift by the semitone amount.
Expected results
| Where | What you see |
|---|---|
| Patchwright | Trigger → get notes → transpose → set notes |
| Live | All notes moved by N semitones; clip length unchanged |
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No notes changed | Clip must be MIDI, not audio; trigger must be On MIDI Clip |
| Wrong interval | Adjust semitones param before rebuild |
| Notes doubled or gone | Ensure set notes replaces the full list from transpose output |
